Thalamo-Cortical Network and Seizure Dynamics: A Computational Study

Abstract:
Experimental data indicate that thalamic inputs are important factors for the generation and termination of seizures. In this paper a minimal biophysical model of cortico-thalamo-cortical network is investigated by a computational approach. The results show that a change in the amplitude of synaptic currents between thalamic and cortical neurons promotes seizure like dynamics. Moreover, the increase of the level of inhibition between neurons of the thalamic network is sufficient for seizure termination
